Information on Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers for those who plan to enter the 2010 Poster Contest.

Posters should depict the work of solving crimes in the community. The work of Crime Stoppers is not related to highway traffic issues.

Crime Stoppers is a partnership of the public, law enforcement and the media working to bring to justice those who perpetrate crimes and to prevent crime. Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers (MRCS) was formed in 1984 by a group of concerned retailers and regional Law enforcement Officials with the support of the Retail Merchants Association. This makes MRCS one of the oldest Crime Stoppers organizations in the USA. There are well over 2,000 nationwide. The concerned citizens of the Greater Richmond area felt then, as they do today, that an organized citizenry offering rewards leading to the apprehension of criminals could make a significant contribution toward Law Enforcement's capability to arrest criminals.

Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers is administered by a Board of Directors. The Board is made up of 30 volunteer Directors and representatives of the area Law Enforcement jurisdictions of: City of Richmond, Henrico County, Hanover County, Goochland County, New Kent County and Charles City County.

Our Police Coordinator is Col. Henry Stanley, Chief of Henrico County Police. Currently, he delegates that responsibility to Lt. Scott Jones. Lt. Jones supervises the call takers and the administration of presenting reward information and other details for the consideration of the Board of Directors. Tipsters call the 804-780-1000 tip line and are assured of their anonymity by being given an identification number.

Again, no names! Approved rewards are paid out in cash by the identification number. Hence our slogan; “We don't have to know who you are to know who they are!"
